# Why deodorant stops working after 40 — and what to use instead

If deodorant suddenly isn't enough after 40, it may not be sweat. Aging skin produces nonenal that antiperspirants weren't built for. Nonenal isn't water-soluble and isn't caused by sweat bacteria, so spraying more deodorant rarely fixes it.
